As part of the PostMap Club subscription service in the month of June, Lost Map are pleased to exclusively share a collaboration between two of the most exciting young artists on the Scottish underground electronic music scene – Kinbote + Kiszes, who team up for the release of standalone single ‘GPA’. Available to PostMap Club subscribers now, as well as via digital platforms from June 9, the lushly kaleidoscopic ‘GPA’ is the result of a remote collaboration in the depths of the January lockdown – a bleak but beautiful swirling midwinter banger set to fragmented beats and softly rousing synths and samples.
Kinbote is the alias of found-sound sample based electronic glitch-pop producer Matt Gibb, whose enchanting debut album Shifting Distance was released by Lost Map in December 2020 (“stirring music with a darkly funny edge... an impressive piece of work” – The Financial Times). His collaboration with Kiszes, AKA acclaimed Scottish producer and composer Owen McAllister, is his first experience of writing to someone else’s music.
“We would send the song back and forth,” Matt explains, “with me adding melodies and restructuring, and Owen restructuring and changing the beat/instrumentation around my melodies. ‘GPA’ is a bit of a bleak song, and lyrically is just a totally fictional vignette. It came together very smoothly after Owen sent me his first draft, and the lyrics and harmonies fell into place naturally.”
