about

Lost Map Records are excited to welcome Glasgow based synth-pop purveyors of feelgood sad songs Happy Spendy to the label, with the release of their new track ‘Feelings 2’. Backed by a happiest of hardcore remixes by Lost Map labelmate Coatbridge polymath Romeo Taylor, ‘Feelings 2’. It’s a taster of Happy Spendy’s forthcoming new five-track EP Ready When You Are, which will be released on February 28, ahead of a compilation album in the spring gathering together all three of Happy Spendy’s EPs to date in one place for the first time. 2020 is the year of Happy Spendy.

Derry Girl Eimear Coyle started Happy Spendy to help her work through some tough times and brought it to life with Glasgow friends Rosie Pearse, Siobhain Ma, Connell King and Kieran Coyle. The band self-released their debut EP You Look Lovely in 2017 and follow-up Take Care of Yourself in 2018. DIY described their first EP as “a big fuzzy pop hug” and GoldFlakePaint said it was “a true hidden gem”. Since then they have had the time of their young lives supporting some of their favourite artists like Self Esteem, Lomelda, The Spook School, The Vaselines and Bossy Love.

“‘Feelings 2’ is a song I wrote reflecting over the past couple of years since my dad died,” explains Eimear. “We were truly best pals and I think about him all the time. This song is about how my feelings have progressed and changed since it happened; I’ve found happiness in so many places but the grief never leaves. I like writing sad lyrics to help me through my feelings (or two) but as an otherwise cheery person I enjoy the juxtaposition of disguising my sad songs behind fun melodies and keyboard sounds and performing them on stage with all my best pals has been the perfect way for me to celebrate my dad and keep my head up.”
