Here’s your guide to what’s on the Lost Map Christmas Card compilation ...

Happy Clarinetty / Happy Spendy / Marble Gods - ‘I Remember Xmas’ (x 3)

Over the past few months, our favourite Casio-poppers have been posting videos on Instagram with clarinet versions of their songs. Given that the clarinet is the second most Xmassy of all instruments (after sleigh bells, obvs), the newly dubbed Happy Clarinetty were obviously one of our first choices to create something for this compilation.

Helpfully, the Spendies already had an amazing Xmas song in the bank - one that they had recorded originally as a punky/grunge-pop number under their previous incarnation, Marble Gods. It’s such a good tune, we’ve included all three versions of this song on the card, all newly remastered. If you do a wee bit o’ searching, you’ll find videos for two of these versions, hidden away online...

A.R. Pinewood - ‘’Tis The Season’ / ‘Silent Night’ / ‘This Year’

We commissioned our stetson-loving song machine to record one song. So of course he managed to do three. His first two tracks have all the bittersweet longing of a Xmas spent alone on the ranch, rewiring ones own circuits; whereas ‘This Year’ sounds like a randy Mrs Claus on the sherry.

Fell - ‘Fear Of Christmas’

Having recorded a pile of songs this year as part of his Sides project, we figured Fell frontman Nicolas Burrows would have no trouble creating a future Xmas No.1. He’s managed to absorb the feel-good vibes of the theme tune to ITV’s Heartbeat (starring late-80’s pin-up, Nick Berry), with a light frosting of Jona Lewie & Shakin’ Stevens. Surely a winning formula, but to find out if he’s reached the top spot, you’ll have to set your VCR timer to record BBC One’s Top Of The Pops on 25th Dec 1980-something, at 7pm.

Friends Of The Guinness - ‘Ciara’ / Town For Tomorrow’

This is very special indeed. Martha Ffion popped me a text message last month, asking if Lost Map would be willing to release a couple of Xmas songs from a brand new supergroup - Friends Of The Guinness. She’s accompanied by Romeo Taylor, as well as Eimear from Happy Spendy, Craig and Beth from Savage Mansion and Ryan from Catholic Action. How could we possibly refuse? Her text message was pretty adamant, and then she sent me this threatening voice message: “Chacken rahn, uhr wallus an grummat???”. I’ve since blocked her number, but the point is the music is fantastic.
