Sulka, AKA Glasgow-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lukas Clasen, releases his forthcoming new EP Front Door on limited-edition CDR and digital platforms December 3, 2021.

Sulka’s breezy, intimate songs bring to mind the heart-felt melodicism of Eliott Smith, the ramshackle joy of Guided By Voices and the break-neck thrills of early-Pavement. The Front Door EP develops the personal, confessional sensibility Lukas cultivated on Take Care; his vocals barely register above a whisper, but feel like they are being sung straight in your ear.

“Front Door is a collection of songs I wrote during the long quiet months of lockdown in 2020,” explains Lukas. “Having just finished mixing my album Take Care, I was feeling burnt out by upbeat music and wanted to experiment with writing something much slower. I was getting re-inspired by traditional songwriting, allowing good chords and lyrics to take precedence over complex production and arrangements. Recently I’d turned 25 and left a significant relationship behind; I was feeling a major shift in my life, and now had a seemingly endless amount of time to ruminate about it. I wrote and demoed a lot of songs with this focus in mind, eventually narrowing the collection down to these six tracks which I feel best capture the spirit of the time.”
